2010 Walleye Education Weekend

"Spring Walleye"

Lake Erie, Huron, Ohio

                                           April 29-May 2, 2010

Windy weather made for an interesting 2010 spring trip on Lake Erie.  Day 1 was a little windy and wavy, but the big fish were biting!!  Deep water up to 50' north of Kelley's Island was the best location and spinners with crawlers high in the water column ruled the day.  Gold and Copper blades scored the most fish and dark bead patterns with some chartreuse and pink thrown in seemed to be the fishes favorite.  36 anglers made the trek out on Day 1 and were rewarded with 112 fish ranging from 4-12.6 lbs!  Most of the fish caught were in the 6-8lb class and 6 fish over 10lbs were caught.  Big fish of the day went to Don Hopkins with a 12.6lb monster.  Marco Zerilli made the big fish pot close with a 11.6 lber.

A special thanks to all who made this trip one of our best.  As always, sponsors Traxstech and Warrior Lures were on hand to help with boat rigging and custom painted spoons and blades.  Members of the Fish Huron Committee made us all feel very welcome.  Jay Enzor at J n J Harbor Drive Thru was the official Tackle Store of Walleye 101 on this trip and did a great job of providing our group with everything we needed to have a successful trip!  Jay and his crew worked hard every day to give us a great place to clean fish, take pictures and gather in the afternoon.  The folks at the Huron Motel 6 again came through with great lodging for our group.  As always thanks to all of you who attended and all the staff members and volunteers.

This year our fish fry was taken over by the Fish Huron Organization, with Mesenberg Catering supplying the fish and doing all the cooking, and Berardi's Restaurant providing their famous french fries, cole slaw and rolls for the fish fry.  It is a great honor to have the local businesses get behind what Walleye 101 is doing.  Use the link below to visit the Fish Huron website and plan a trip to the best fishing for big walleye in the country!
