2009 Walleye Education Weekend
"May on the Bay"
Saginaw Bay May 14-17, 2009
Windy weather was a constant for the 2009 version of "May on the Bay." Wind cut the trip to only 1 day, with fishing only on Friday. Everyone who went fishing Friday did quite well, with lots of 16-20" walleye caught. Spinners and crawlers in shallow water was the best pattern. Lots of fish were caught in7-12 fow between the Quanicassee River mouth and Sebewaing.
On Friday night Mike Roush and Dan Schmidt shared their secrets for fishing the St. Clair River. Mike and Dan fish the river a lot, and their expertise was a big help to everyone on the trip. They cover "whipping" and "Chugging" as well as basic location and movement patterns of walleye on the St. Clair River.
Saturday brought small craft advisories, so no fishing was to happen. Most of the anglers headed off to Frank's to do some shopping. In the afternoon the Walleye 101 staff help some impromptu seminars. Duncan spent the afternoon working with anglers on their Lowrance electronics and rigging. Jeff Miller from Traxstech was able to spend some personal hands on time in anglers boats and give them some first hand advice on getting the most fishability out of their boats with the proper rigging of rod holders and accessories. Lance, Gregg Lamere and Mark Van Kampen spread out around the lodge and worked with anglers answering any questions they had.
As always the Saturday evening fish fry was excellent. Doug, Chris, Sharon and Kirk did a great job preparing an excellent meal.
