Walleye 101 "Trophy Hunt Week 2"

November 8-11, 2007

Lake Erie, Huron, Ohio

The second weekend of the 2007 Trophy Hunt started out with great promise as close to 70 anglers launched from Holiday Harbor on Friday morning.  Despite the rough weather from the prior 3 days, the water was fairly flat, fishable and some what clean.. Water temps had dropped a few degrees from the week 1 trip and hopes were high for a great weekend.

Lots of fish were caught on day 1 with Larry Schneider and the crew of Cadence Call leading the way with a 14 fish catch.  Most of the other boats came to the dock with 5 or 6 fish, but the average size was bigger than week 1.  Big fish on day 1 went to Trevor Schorener with a beauty just over 10 lbs.

Unfortunately Mother Nature kicked up her heels again, canceling Saturday's fishing due to a small craft advisory.  The day was spent hanging around the hotel, visiting local tackle shops and other things to keep busy.  The time of the fish fry was moved up, and again the fish fry did not disappoint!  Brian Yergin led a huge staff of volunteers that prepped, cooked and served enough fish to keep everyone happy.  The day ended with another great raffle.

Some of the gang headed out fishing on day 3, and reports were coming in of some boats getting fish.  The wind began to blow early in the afternoon and most of the anglers headed home before evening set in.  All in all another good trip.  Unfortunately the weather and fishing were not as we had hoped, but the food, friendship and fishing stories all added up to another great trip.
